ER Letter for October 2009

Looking back, September was a busy month. We closed the pool for the season, held our annual Soccer Shoot, restarted family burger nights, had our annual comedy night, held initiation during our District Deputy visit, hosted the Greensboro Lodge members when they delivered the Traveling Gavel and had our family campout. I thought our Lodge activities would slow down when the pool closed!

We had the largest participation in the Soccer Shoot in many years. This is a fun competition for our youth and shows all who participate that Elks Care – Elks Share. The Soccer Shoot is one of the ways that Elks help encourage youth to undertake healthful and positive activities in an effort to keep young people from falling under the influence of drugs. Winners in all age groups will advance to the district Soccer Shoot to be held here at our Lodge. Doug Orcutt is our Soccer Shoot chairman and District chairman.

October is another big month at the Lodge. We celebrate our 100th year anniversary this month. If you have been to the Lodge lately you may have seen the flyers posted on the doors and in the elevator. We have an activity planned for every part of our membership. So if you are a “water Elk”, life member, past officer, or a regular we have something that you will enjoy attending. Check the website( www.hpelks.com ) for an up to the minute schedule of events.

We kick off the celebration with the Past Exalted Ruler and Officer social by invitation only on October 22nd. Saturday night the 24th will be Band Night in the Lounge. This is free to all members and spouses. Monday night the 26th we will be having our birthday party for all Elks and their families. We will be having hot dogs and birthday cake for all who attend. On Tuesday morning we will be having a breakfast for all senior members and their spouses. Wednesday will be a special steak dinner for members. Thursday night we expect the Grand Exalted Ruler to attend our dinner party.

As you can tell this, will be quite a celebration. Please call the office and make reservations for the events you want to attend. Since most of these activities are free to members and their families, we will require reservations for these events for planning purposes.

We are asking members to share their memories and pictures from past and present for our scrapbook commemorating our 100th anniversary. We have a few pictures and stories so far but can always use more. Submit your stories via email at hpellks1155@triad.rr.com or drop them off at the office.

In October we will only have one regular Lodge Meeting due to the 100th anniversary celebration week. Please plan on attending a meeting to get an update on our Lodge activities and opportunities to volunteer within our Lodge and in our community

Don’t forget we have our regularly scheduled family burger nights every Thursday. We have a burger bar set up in the Lounge and for $5 you get a burger with all the fixings, chips, cookies and lemonade.  The Lounge also has all of the games on NFL Ticket. The House Committee will be offering specials during the games.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Lodge.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Scott Webster, Exalted Ruler
High Point Elks Lodge #1155
