Americanism Essay Contest 2016

This year’s Americanism essay contest thesis was entitled “Why is it Important to Vote?” The topic gave students an opportunity to share their thoughts not only regarding the Presidential election but also regarding elections at the local level.

Amanda Pipkin was awarded 1st place, Keval Shah was selected for 2nd place, and Claire Renfro came in 3rd. All of our winners attend Southwest Middle School. The Lodge provided $25, $15 and $10 Barnes & Noble gift cards to the respective winners. In addition, 6 students received Honorable Mention and took home a $5 gift card from Subway.

Our top three winners went on to compete at the Regional District level where Amanda Pipkin’s essay was selected for 3rd place for our District. She was awarded $25. Congratulations to all our participants and winners. Thank you to Deanna Vernon for coordinating this year’s contest and to Katherine Gold (Elk Member), our Teacher at Southwest Middle School who introduced this year’s contest to her students.
