Our Lodge was as busy as ever in the month of July.  Our annual 4th of July pool party was once again a fun event for children and adults of all ages.  Volleyball teams are more competitive than ever, ”Corn hole” tournaments are a weekly event, and you can occasionally enjoy some live acoustic guitar music on the deck.  This is what summer is all about at the Elks Lodge.

Monica and I represented the High Point Elks Lodge #1155, at the Elks National Convention in Orlando this year, We had the opportunity to meet many Elks from around the country.  The Convention was both entertaining as well as educational, This is definitely a must do event for any Elk. One of the highlights of the convention was when all of the ER’s from the states of, New Mexico, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York , Wisconsin, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana, met poolside on the final night of the convention and recited the 11 O’clock toast as a group to the State Association Presidents.

I would like to Congratulate our Elk’s Swim team for their GREAT 3rd place finish in the 2010 Championship Meet.  My Thanks go out to Laura and her coaching staff, and to all the parent volunteers for their help and support throughout the season.

As we head into August please remember to come to the Lodge on Aug. 7th for our Camp Carefree Fundraising Event we will be a host stop off for the Camp Carefree Motorcycle Run this year, this will be a family event, and we really need to show our support.

I would like to say WELCOME to our new Elk members. It was great meeting you this summer!

July 4th was a HUGE success.  I would like to thank Kathy Chorpening for her help organizing and running the games.  Also a big thank you to Carol Hoover, Theresa Franklin, Mary Kearns, Anne Marie Orcutt , and Kathy Pascavage for all your help in making this 4th of July a huge success with decorating, selling donuts, selling snow cones, taking photos & many more things.  And sorry to anyone I have left out for you know who you are THANK YOU!

A special Thank you goes out to a future Elk Ryan Capra for selling snow cones, setting up for the 4th of July.

August 7th CAMP CAREFREE DAY
This is an ElK event with the Ladies Auxiliary to help the men raise money for their great cause of Camp Carefree Please plan to attend to a fun filled full day of lots of activities.  There will be a Cook out of Chicken dinners for $5.00 a person games $5.00 a band to play all day, silent auction items AND we would LOVE to have as many kids at this event to have our kids meet the riders with flags to welcome them on their arrival and MANY MORE…

This month the Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting our biggest party of the year ISLAND NIGHT Saturday, August 28th  at 6:30. There will be appetizers, dancing, music featuring DJ Les, games, raffle basket and a Grand Prize drawing. You will not want to miss out on this! Get your tickets while they last there is a limited amount being sold.

Congratulations High Point Elks Swim Team for placing in 3rd for the City Swim Meet! That is a big accomplishment going against 20 something other teams.

It is August so that means it is our last month to enjoy the pool and time to think about going back to school.  With that said keep checking your newsletter for upcoming events or checking out the Elks website http://www.hpelks.com

Upcoming this month is Spaghetti & Magic Family Night, Sunday, August 15th upstairs starting at 5:30.

Our Elk of the Month for July is Stewart McGlaughlin. Whenever someone needs a volunteer, Stewart is there to pitch in.  Stewart is a member of our Pool Committee, organizes our volleyball league, is a member of our House Committee and has helped out with most of our Cookouts.  If you have ever accessed the Lodge Web site, you have seen some of Stewart’s work as he is the one updating the site daily. Thank you Stewart for all that you do for the High Point Elks Lodge and congratulations on being our July Elk of the Month.

On July 14, members of the High Point Lodge traveled to Calabash, NC to feed 200 North Carolina School Resource Officers and their families.  This is the 14th year we have done this.  It was a hot and humid day, but other than a morning shower the weather held out for us.  Thanks to Ed & Dottie Roberson, Lindsey Welch, Sandy Hand, Jimmy Bertschi, Patti Reece and Shari Driscoll for their help in making this a successful event…again!!!

Members, please join us for a dinner special before the Regular Lodge Meetings on Wednesday, August 25th.

Dinner will be served in the upstairs dining room from 6:00 – 7:30.

We will also have a limited open bar available upstairs during this time. The downstairs Member’s Lounge will open immediately after the 7:30 meeting.

Cost is $10.00 for meal and cocktails.
