ER Letter for December 2009

November was another active month at the Lodge. The Ladies Auxiliary is ran a very successful canned food drive for Caring Services of High Point. I think this should be a Lodge event every year as we prepare for the holiday season. We also had our annual Chili Cook Off in conjunction with the Fall Carnival for the kids. We had a beautiful day and participants of all ages had a great time. Our annual Veterans Thanksgiving dinner was well received by our veterans as we fed them Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. A special thanks to all who helped serve and clean up.

As we move into the Christmas season, your Lodge gets decorated both inside and out with decorations. Some of the most important decorations are the veteran giving trees. These are set up around the Lodge and have gift suggestions on the tags. Please remember to take a tag when you are at the Lodge during the first weeks of December and return the unwrapped gift to the Lodge before December 15th.All are welcome to go to the VA Hospital to distribute the gifts and sing Christmas carols December 15th. Just meet at the Lodge and we will all go together to the VA hospital. This is truly a special evening and a way to give back to our Veterans.

On December 6th your Lodge Officers will be performing our Memorial Service. This is a short service performed annually where we pause and remember our past members.

The Ladies Auxiliary will be putting on their annual breakfast with Santa on December 19th. There will be a visit from Santa himself. If you don’t want to fight the crowds at the mall this is the perfect place to see Santa. Santa’s helpers will be helping the kids with crafts and snacks will be available. This is always our best attended children function outside of pool season.

Our Past Exalted Rulers Association has started their annual flat screen give away. The PER’s as they are known, raffle a big screen TV during our Super Bowl party. They have decided to upgrade to a flat screen with surround sound this year. All proceeds go to the PER Association project fund. The PER’s take on large projects in our Lodge and fund activities that further Elkdom.

Your House Committee will once again be hosting a New Years Eve party. There will be live entertainment and party favors. All the details are not complete at press time, but there are only a limited number of tickets available. In the past this has been a sell out so get you tickets as soon as possible.

Due to the Christmas Holiday, we will only have one Lodge meeting during December on the 9th.

Finally, I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

I look forward to seeing you all at the Lodge.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Scott Webster, Exalted Ruler
High Point Elks Lodge #1155
