The Elks National Convention was held in Atlanta this year and we were joined by over 6,000 Elks Members and guests. The true meaning of Elkdom was in full swing, no one was a stranger as everyone wore a smile! Over 97,000 people joined Elks Lodges across the nation last year, and North Carolina Elks placed 2nd in new membership with a 12% gain. Thank you for your part in bringing your friends and family into our Lodge as it has helped our state reach this goal. We congratulate and welcome our new Grand Exalted Ruler from New York, Bruce Hidley. Also, congratulations to Richard Penk for becoming our new District Deputy. We look forward to seeing him at our next DD Clinic to be held at our Lodge on August 21st.
Our High Point Elks Lodge was able to contribute greatly to our community this past month. When our grants from Elks National Foundation came through, your Lodge Officers were able to make the following donations: $3,000 to the Hero’s Center, $2,500 to Homegrown Heroes, $1,000 to High Point Food Alliance, and another $1,000 to Tiny House of High Point specifically for veterans housing.
July continued to be a great month for our Lodge. A large group of members attended a High Point Rockers baseball game, many members came out to support our own Mark “Vern” Vernon as he played with his band at S.O.B., and we also got to congratulate our swim team on a job well done. What a party they had to wrap up their summer. Lastly, a big thank you to Bob Martin for painting and reconfiguring our game room, dart players get ready!
Our Drug Awareness Program (DAP) is asking for members to step up and join us in the fight for awareness and to bring education to as many people as possible by distributing pamphlets and other literature in our possession.
