Hello Brothers and Sisters:
Although October started with a lot of wind and rain from Hurricane Ian passing through, we were very happy to have great participation in our Golf Tournament Pre-Party! Thanks to the Tea Cup Auction and the Silent Auction, as well as the Daniel Love Band, we raised a lot of money for the tournament and the Heroes Center. The Andy Albertson & Steven Hall Memorial Charity Tournament will be held on Saturday November 5th to pay tribute to the service and dedication of our absent Brothers. The funds raised will benefit the Heroes Center Veteran Support Camp in honor of Andy, Steven, and their families. Thank you, Deanna Vernon and the Golf Committee for putting on these wonderful events.
Did you learn how to shag dance in September? Thank you, Bruce Deal, the Fred Astaire of shag, for taking the time to teach our members these fun moves. I also had the pleasure of visiting with our Ladies Book Club – what a memorable group of ladies. If you are interested, contact Angie, Birdie, or Jeannie.
We held our first PER Steak Night October 7th with an excellent turn out. Fantastic food and great people always make for an enjoyable experience. Thank you to Phil and Shari Driscoll, Hutch, Scott Webster and the rest of the team for a great night.
It was a pleasure seeing fellow Elks and enjoying the company of our Grand Exalted Ruler Bruce Hidley at the NC Fall Convention last weekend. Among many other topics, it was discussed how North Carolina Elks continue to achieve increased membership goals. The highlight of the event was seeing Mr. Hidley and our own Loyal Knight Bob Martin reunited after 40 years, as they were childhood friends!
Lastly, I’m amazed at all of the hard work put into revitalizing our Pool and Dart Rooms in the Lounge! These great spaces are being utilized continuously. We have darts available at the bar – let’s get the competition going!
